Flu Vaccine Statistics, Don't Be Fooled!

If I came up with a flu prevention plan that only worked for 1 patient out of every 100, would you take part in my plan? Would that be effective, let alone economical? Of course not; it would be ridiculous.
Yet, that is exactly what is happening with each year's flu vaccine. There is an immoral reporting of vaccine efficacy data to you.
Take for instance a major flu vaccine study that concludes people 60 years and older have a 50% reduction in getting the flu when they receive the vaccine. Sounds great, right? Who wouldn't enjoy a 50% reduction in flu? The dirty little secret is that this is a RELATIVE reduction of 50%. The actual data from the study is this:
3% of the unvaccinated group got the flu.
2% of the vaccinated group got the flu.
The difference between 2% and 3%?.......50%!!!!
Be very focused here. That is a RELATIVE reduction of 50%. The ABSOLUTE reduction in flu risk was a mere 1% (the difference between 2% and 3%). Let me repeat that so it sinks in: According to the research that is the rationale for mass flu vaccination, you have a 1% less chance of getting the flu with the vaccine than doing nothing at all.
So in other words, 97% of the unvaccinated group did NOT get the flu and 98% of the vaccinated group did NOT get the flu.
Surely, I must be mistaken, right? No, and this RELATIVE reduction method is used in research all the time to show how "effective" vaccines, and blood pressure, cholesterol, and diabetes medications are.
Billions and Billions and Billions of dollars are spent each year on the flu vaccine because it provides a 1% absolute reduction in the flu.
Now take the work of Urashima et al in which a 72% RELATIVE reduction in flu is reported in a group taking 1200 I.U Vitamin D3 versus those without any Vit D supplementation. Now, let's be honest here as well. This is just a relative reduction. The actual data is as follows:
11% of the Vitamin D group contracted influenza
19% of the control group contracted influenza.
Even so, this data supports that Vitamin D is MORE EFFECTIVE in preventing the Flu than the flu vaccine.
Folks, the point of this post is to show you that you MUST understand the difference between RELATIVE and ABSOLUTE reductions when looking at research. Yes, deciphering research should be the job of your doctor, but if he or she does not understand how to read research, and just glosses over the results, you will be given BAD information on YOUR health.
